The amount of cyanobacterial blooms has increased in both lakes and sea areas, but is still lower than the average for this time period. In lakes, substantial blooms have only been observed at four monitoring sites. In the sea areas, blooms have been observed at the entrance to the Gulf of Finland and to the south of the Åland islands, but they mainly consist of non-toxic species.
