Present role

I am a leading researcher (since January 2018) in the group of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in the Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production. At present, I am responsible for the project of the European Regional Development Fund “Promotion of sustainable circular bioeconomy in North Karelia”.

I have a PhD in genetics, and I have worked all my previous professional life with biotechnology. I worked close to 30 years (1988 – 2017) at VTT Ltd (Technical Research Centre of Finland) as a researcher and specialist/expert in the RDI of industrial biotechnology and bioeconomy. I also held management positions since 2000 (team leader, research manager, research area manager). My expertise lies in industrial biotechnology (exploitation of microbes in industrial bioprocesses for production of biofuels and biochemicals, in particularly utilising waste and side streams), and in the opportunities it offers for bioeconomy and circular economy.
