Biodiesel production from closed-algae growing systems using waste water of ethanol plant in Vietnam (ALGNAM)

Summary

In this project we aim to develop and build a pilot scale, tubular photobioreactor for growing microalgae in Vietnam. The reactor will use wastewater with high concentration of nutrients and CO2, which are waste streams produced by an ethanol plant. The intended use of the microalgal biomass is for biodiesel production. In addition to the focus on growing algae using waste streams, we will also carry out research on optimization of downstream processing such as wet extraction of algal oils.

This project aims to contribute to the Vietnamese biofuel program, and the pilot biodiesel processing plant will be used for evaluating the cost and quality of biofuel from algae.
