+ Show information

Basic project information

Finland together with all other Baltic Sea countries and HELCOM has participated the project BRISK (Sub-regional risk of spill of oil and hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea). The project jointly with the project BRISK-RU has assessed the risks of spills of oil and hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea. The overall aim of the projects has been to increase the preparedness of all Baltic Sea countries to respond to major spills of oil and hazardous substances from shipping. The projects were carried out as a part of the HELCOM co-operation. In Finland the Marine Pollution Response Group of Finnish Environment Institute coordinated the national part of the project BRISK. The projects were lead by Denmark.

With HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan (2007) the Baltic Sea countries have committed themselves to efficient emergency and response capacity.
