Finnish Sustainable Communities FISU - vitality from resource wisdom

News 2015-06-09 at 10:06

No waste, no emissions, no overconsumption. Four Finnish cities, Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta, Turku and Forssa, have committed to working towards becoming carbon neutral and waste-free and curbing overconsumption by 2050. The cities will form a network to support each other, known as FISU (Finnish Sustainable Communities). A service centre consisting of experts from the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and Motiva has been established to support and coordinate its work. The network will expand to two more cities by the end of 2015. Alongside the FISU network, the HINKU network of municipalities aiming at carbon neutrality is still operating with the most ambitious emission goals in Finland: -80% by 2030.
