Current tasks

My main task is the implementation of genetic methods for phytoplankton monitoring in the Baltic Sea. During a first pilot study new genetic methods and their integration in existing monitoring procedures get tested, followed by the publication of guidelines on best practices and future perspectives.

Background

I completed my PhD at the University of Helsinki in 2020. During my PhD I studied the ecology and evolution of a toxin producing microalgae (dinoflagellate Alexandrium ostenfeldii) at SYKE, Tvärminne Zoological station and in research labs in Sweden and Japan.

My BSc degree in ecology and a MSc degree in limnology (2012), were awarded by the University of Vienna (Austria).

Before my PhD I gained experience in ecology and applied phycology in several research groups at the University of Vienna, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and in the private sector.
