Modelling photochemical mineralization and microbial decay of DOC - FOKEMA

+ Show information

Basic project information

The aim of the Fokema-project is to describe the fate of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in natural waters. One of the main objectives is to accurately simulate the biological decay and photomineralization of DOC.

The main tool used is a 1D MyLake-model application for Lake Pääjärvi in southern Finland. Modules for microbial decay and photomineralization have been developed for the MyLake-model.

A simulation has been made for the years 1995-2006 and the results show that the model is capable of reproducing the DOC observed in the lake by routine monitoring made at the Lammi biological station belonging to the University of Helsinki.
