Cyanobacterial blooms have increased especially in lakes of the Southern Finland. In sea areas, cyanobacterial blooms have been observed in the Gulf of Finland, Bothnian Sea and along the Southeastern and Western coasts. Depending on wind conditions, some cyanobacteria may also drift to sea shores. Water containing cyanobacteria should always be handled with caution, due to potential adverse health effects.
