A task group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) holds its 24th meeting at SYKE on 6-8 July 2016. TGICA, short for Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis, co-ordinates the IPCC Data Distribution Centre (DDC), which provides access to climate, socio-economic and environmental data in support of IPCC work and as used in the IPCC assessments. It also produces guidance materials distributed through the DDC and contributes to building capacity in the use of data and scenarios for climate change research. TGICA comprises members with diverse expertise from all three IPCC Working Groups.

TGICA co-chair, Research Professor Timothy Carter from the Climate Change Programme at SYKE, notes that this is the second TGICA meeting to be held at SYKE; the sixth meeting of the group was held here in 2002. In common with earlier meetings, TGICA-24 will include a special national session, entitled “Data and Scenarios for Climate Change Research and Policy in Finland”, at which speakers include Senior Researcher Kirsti Jylhä from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Director Mikael Hildén from SYKE and Negotiator Hanna Mattila from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
