Current tasks
I am working with environmental standardization.
I act as liaison for national environmental standardization in accordance with the agreement between Syke and the Finnish Standardization Association SFS. I am a chairman or secretary of the national environmental standardization monitoring groups appointed by Syke. I am also a secretary of the “CEN / TC 230 / WG28 DNA and eDNA methods” working group.
I work as a laboratory expert for international development and cooperation projects.
My tasks are also to prepare DB-codes for organic chemical compounds in the Hertta register.

Background
In 2001 I defended my dissertation at the Department of Chemistry, University of Joensuu, in the group of organic chemistry.
I have worked as a chemist in the laboratory of the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) since the beginning of 2003.
Previously, I worked in the environmental chemistry research group and its predecessor groups as the responsible person of equipment and methods in organic chemistry, and as an expert in organic chemistry analytics in proficiency tests and export projects.
At the beginning of 2019, I moved to the metrology group to become acquainted with European (CEN) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) tasks related to environmental standardization.
From the beginning of 2020, I acted as the contact person for the national environmental standardization. Syke is one of the national associations of the Finnish Association for Standardization (SFS), with responsibility for environmental standardization. On the environmental field standardization appointed by Syke, I act as chairman or secretary in the national standardization monitoring groups. My role is to vote on the draft standards from CEN and ISO, as proposed by the monitoring national groups. I also act as secretary of the “CEN / TC 230 / WG28 DNA and eDNA methods” working group of the European Standardization Organization.
After the organizational reform, I moved to the Interlaboratory Comparisons group of the Research Infrastructure Unit.
