Current tasks
In addition to administrative tasks, my reseach focuses on the themes as follows:
- Microplastic studies: µFTIR-analytics, environmental analytics, source assessment
- Engineered nanoparticles: characterisation, environmental fate
I am currently supervising three PhD students.
Background
I have worked at SYKE since 2009: first as a senior research scientist in the team of inorganic chemistry, then as a team leader of New technologies and experimental effect studies (2011-2013) and currently as a unit of head of Ecotoxicology and risk assessment (2014 - ). My thesis dealt with ”Chemical and source characterisation of size-segregated urban air particulate matter”.
Research projecs
- Quantification and mitigation of microplastics released from households (Maa- ja vesitekniikan tuki ry)
- Optimization and harmonization of microspectroscopic methods for identification of microplastics in marine samples (Pohjoismaiden ministerineuvosto)
- Microplastics in Finnish domestic waters (Vesihuoltolaitoksen kehittämisrahasto)
- Microplastics from wastewater treatment plants to the environment (Maa- ja vesitekniikan tuki ry)
Publications
I have co-authored over 130 scientific publications, of which about 50 papers come out in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
