Hydrological monitoring part of the SEVIRA project has progressed as planned. Second hydrological workshop of the project was arranged in Helsinki in November. One aim of this work package is to increase conversation and knowledge exchange on hydrological monitoring and its practices between Finland and Russia. This aim was accomplished during the workshop.
Workshop took place in the Finnish Environement Institute in Helsinki.
In the workshop, several issues related to hydrological monitoring were presented and discussed. Russian hydrological monitoring system was presented to Finnish hydrologists. Finnish presentations included overview and discussion on outsourcing of hydrological measurements in Finland, precipitation measurements, areal precipitation calculation and precipitation correction practices in Finland. In addition, the Flood Centre co-operation in Finland and water temperature measurement practices was presented. Finnish hydrological data systems of the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE were demonstrated. Discussions after each presentation were active, and according to plans, the workshop increased understanding on hydrological monitoring in both countries.
There were altogether 20 participants present in Helsinki hydrological workshop. From Russia there were four participants from Northwest Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (FSBI North-West AHEM). The rest of participants were from Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland (KAS-ELY) and Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). In addition to participants present in Helsinki meeting room, six persons listened seminar online via Skype connection.
This workshop was the last event in hydrology for the year 2019. The first hydrological workshop was held in St. Petersburg in March 2019. Next hydrological monitoring event will be the joint monitoring training in the winter 2020.
