During the past week sparse cyanobacteria blooms were observed at four monitoring stations in the Gulf of Finland. Contrary to the week before abundant blooms were no longer observed at any marine monitoring stations. The windy and rainy weather mixed the algal mass back into the water column and the total number of reported algal blooms in lakes also declined. Very abundant lake algal blooms were no longer reported and only three abundant blooms were reported in lakes. The overall number of observed blooms in both lakes and the Baltic is below the long-term average and markedly lower than the week before.
