The 9th International Contact Forum on Habitat Conservation in the Barents Region

9th Habitat Contact ForumThe next Habitat Contact Forum will be organized on 6-8th of June, 2017, in Oulu, Finland.

International Contact Forum on Habitat Conservation in the Barents Region, also known as the Habitat Contact Forum, HCF, was established in 1999 to focus and coordinate nature conservation issues in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region (BEAR).

HCF is one of the key nature conservation activities of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council’s Working Group on Environment and its subgroup on nature protection.

Main topics of the 9th HCF are climate and biodiversity. The HCF will cover topics related to ecosystem services, boreal forest ecosystems and landscapes, wetlands and coastal areas, protected area networks and connectivity and habitat conservation and restoration.

The objectives of the 9th HCF

  • to review the current status of habitat conservation, with a special focus on climate change (adaptation and mitigation)
  • to provide a platform for networking between representatives of authorities, scientific institutions and civil society and in this way to support preparation of new projects related to themes of the HCF

HCF is organized every second year. It gathers the representatives of management authorities, scientific institutions and civil society (NGOs) to discuss current themes of forest and wetland conservation.

The main language is English and simultaneous interpretation (Russian-English-Russian) is organized.

  • Metsähallitus, Parks&Wildlife Finland: Aimo Saano and Jouni Penttinen

Programme committee consists of participants from all four countries.It contributes to the preparation of the programme of the 9th HCF.
