The projects aims at the development of multisensor snow mapping methodology exploiting both optical and paricularly SAR-data. Target area is Europe. The project develops a practical algorithm that uses already classified snow cover fraction maps (optical sensor) and wet snow maps (SAR) and combine the products into two products based on temporal aggregation. Since optical and SAR based snow maps always have limited instantaneous coverage (the amount of the study area that can be mapped at any time) the aim of the combined product will often be to find a reasonable way of combining the two products and at the same time aggregate pixels over a reasonable time interval.
