SYKE starts the chairmanship of the European Network of Freshwater Research Organisations

Antonio Lo Porto from the Italian Water Research Institute passing the EurAqua network's chairmanship to Anna-Stiina Heiskanen from the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE.

During the 53rd meeting of the European Network of Freshwater Research Organizations on 18–19 November 2019 in Finland, Antonio Lo Porto from the Italian Water Research Institute passed the chairmanship to Anna-Stiina Heiskanen from the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE. The chairmanship is for two years between 2019–2021.

The EurAqua network, established 25 years ago, has currently 24 partner institutes from 22 Countries in Europe. "The network has become an active player in delivering science-based information for the European managers and decision makers on river basin management," says Antonio Lo Porto  from the Italian Water Research Institute.

"The future actions will aim to develop further the excellent science and joint collaborations between the partner institutes and to promote science-policy interactions with the EU-level organisations, and to tackle global challenges in sustainable water management," explains the new chair Anna-Stiina Heiskanen from the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE.
