The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) promotes the development of a carbon neutral circular economy and a sustainable bioeconomy by assessing the environmental aspects of products and services throughout their entire lifecycles. Other major issues that the expert and research work at SYKE focuses on include the prevention of waste production, effluents and polluted soil, waste management, risks associated with hazardous substances, and industrial emissions.

Consumers and businesses need reliable information on choices that promote sustainable production and consumption. Such information facilitates decision making in environmental policy issues and helps to evaluate and develop environmental technology and business models on the road towards green growth.
