Algal bloom monitoring July 17, 2014: Observations of cyanobacteria blooms decreased in lakes and the Finnish open sea areas of the Baltic Sea

Press release 2014-07-17 at 13:59

Observations of cyanobacterial surface blooms have decreased since the last week in lakes. Less cyanobacteria has been reported than typically this time of year, albeit some abundant blooms have been observed. Abundant bloom of toxic cyanobacteria has caused symptoms to humans in Lake Ähtärinjärvi. Cyanobacterial blooms have been observed in the coastal areas, and in the open sea areas of the Finnish Archipelago Sea and the Sea of Åland, but not in the Gulf of Finland.
