Algal bloom monitoring August 7, 2014: Extensive cyanobacteria surface blooms still recorded in Finland’s south-western open sea areas, in the Finnish coastal sea areas and in lakes less cyanobacteria has been observed

Press release 2014-08-07 at 12:21

Extensive cyanobacteria surface blooms still exist in the southern Finnish Archipelago Sea and in the Northern Baltic Proper. Instead, observations on cyanobacteria have decreased in the Finnish coastal sea areas of the Baltic Sea, and less cyanobacteria has been observed than typically this time of summer. In lakes, less cyanobacteria has also been observed than on average despite warm surface water temperatures. Individual abundant surface blooms have however been observed in some lakes.
