The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences organized the kick-off meeting of the BONUS FUMARI project in Uppsala. The aim of the project is to draft a proposal for a renewed monitoring system of the Baltic Sea marine environment.
“Our proposal will be based on a review of the gaps between the monitoring requirements set in the international legislation and the existing monitoring and data management, and on an analysis of the possibilities that novel monitoring methods can offer to marine assessment”, says project coordinator Kristian Meissner from the Finnish Environment Institute.

All BONUS FUMARI partners were represented in the Uppsala meeting. In addition to the Finnish Environment Institute they include the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the Halmstad University and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and the University of Duisburg-Essen from Germany.
At the kick-off meeting project partners discussed work plans, deliverables and responsibilities as well as cross-linkages to and cooperation with other BONUS projects. In addition BONUS FUMARI also held the project´s first electronic workshop to collect and implement the views of the stakeholders responsible for the Baltic Sea monitoring.
