Satellite Snow Product Intercomparison and Evaluation Exercise (SnowPEx)

The main objective of the SnowPEx project is to perform the intercomparison and validation of publicly available global/regional remotely sensed snow products (Snow Cover Extent, Snow Water Equivalent). In addition temporal trends for these two variables are studied. The communication between product providers, the research team and users is accomplished through International Satellite Snow Product Intercomparison Workshops (ISSPI 1&2). These workshops were held during the baseline project in 2014 and 2015. The research focused on four time period: on 2000’s, from 2000 to 2012. The SnowPEx+ (based on Contract change notice) focuses on intercomparison and validation of recenctly developed snow extent and SWE products (new algorithms, new sensors) for the period 2015-2020, and The 3rd International Satellite Snow Product Intercomparison Workshop (ISSPI-3) is planned for 2021.
