Digital services

The digital services unit administers and distributes environmental and spatial data at Syke's responsibility by developing information systems and digital services and the infrastructure these require. The unit is responsible for Syke's ICT services and basic information technology in cooperation with the Government ICT Centre Valtori. The unit coordinates the development of Syke's information management policies, overall architecture and administrative information security, and contributes to the production and reporting of environmental information. The unit is charged with procurements, agreements, steering of suppliers and service management associated with its tasks. 

The digital services unit enables research and expert work at all units and closely cooperates especially with the quality of information unit and the reseach infrastructure unit.

The duties of the groups under the Digital services unit: 

 

Information management group 

  • coordinates the development of Syke's information management policies, overall architecture and administrative information security,  
  • maintains an information management model that brings together Syke's information management principles, policies and guidelines, including information security practices and architecture descriptions,  
  • advises, trains and instructs employees in cooperation with the entire digital services unit and groups designated for developing information management at Syke.  

The group includes the built environment information system team.  

Built environment information system team  

  • develops the built environment information system; manages procurements associated with its tasks, agreements, steering of suppliers, service management and cooperation with stakeholders, and takes part in the implementation of the system.  

ICT group 

  • plans, develops and maintains the digital services, ICT infrastructure and ICT services and platforms that Syke needs,  
  • handles service management of basic information technology services provided by the Government ICT Centre Valtori,  
  • manages services and solutions related to terminal devices, group work, virtualization, capacity, calculation, telecommunications, information system platform, access control and identification,  
  • manages procurements associated with its tasks, agreements, steering of suppliers, service management, technical information security, and integration of the ICT services.  

Environmental information systems group 

  • maintains and develops environmental information systems and digital services,  
  • manages the planning, implementation and procurement of information systems, steering of suppliers, and expert and project manager tasks related to these tasks,  
  • manages the development of project work on information system and software architecture, technology solutions, methods and processes, and information system projects.  

The software development is responsible for some of the group's tasks.  

Software development team  

  • develops environmental information systems and digital services as well as information system and software architecture.  

Spatial data management group 

  • manages the organisation of Syke's shared spatial data services,  
  • 'manages solutions that support the management and distribution of spatial data, such as the metadata system, Syke's Open data service and interface and download services on spatial data, and consideration of EU directives regulating the distribution of data in their implementation,  
  • produces, procures, maintains and processes spatial data in cooperation with Syke's other operating units.  

Geoinformatics systems group 

  • develops, implements and maintains spatial data and remote sensing systems and applications,  
  • develops, implements and maintains solutions for the production, management, publication and utilization of spatial data, remote sensing materials and citizens' observations,  
  • develops remote sensing methods in cooperation with the quality of information unit.
