Project Description
The RIPECAP project provided support to selected Arab Countries in achieving the principles of the Declaration of the Arab Ministries of Environment, promoted energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in the Arab Countries and opened the door for projects which reduce GHG emissions. At the same time it developed and analyzed data and information on projects and technologies that rely on existing market relationships to deliver cost-effective energy efficiency services and products to industry.
The goals of the Preparatory Stage
- Collecting reliable information on situation & needs of industry in Egypt, Jordan & Morocco;
- Establishing Knowledge Management System to store data and provide information on technical guides, energy-efficiency equipment, energy efficiency tools and software, technical services, organization directory, finance directory, training and education and situation and needs and serve as a discussion forum;
- Quantifying benefits & applicability of Cleaner Production (CP) & Energy Efficiency (EE) for targeted industries;
- Quantifying the technical and financial needs of each Industrial Establishment to improve its environmental performance and comply with the Environmental Laws;
- Quantifying other institutional needs of each country to undertake the Implementing Stage of RIPECAP.
Services provided by SYKE
- Project management, monitoring and quality assurance;
- Liaison with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and UNEP and other partners;
- Identification and mobilization of polluting industry; capacity building of stakeholders;
- Analysing industrial emissions and defining pollution abatement options;
- Organisation of national and regional workshops, seminars and meetings; provision of training on e.g. best available technologies and life cycle assessment; climate change issues incl. global emissions and treaties; greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and mitigation options; energy efficiency agreements and auditing;
- Dissemination of information and experiences gained through EPAP.
