Upgrading the National Environmental Monitoring System (NEMS) of Azerbaijan on the base of EU best practices

Basic information

The project is funded by European Union within the ENPI Annual Action Programme 2012 with a budget of 1.4 million EUR. The project is implemented by the consortium of EU Member State's bodies: The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), in cooperation with Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), Umweltbundesamt GmbH (Environment Agency Austria, UBA) and Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE). The main beneficiary institution of the Twinning project is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Project objectives

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of environmental performance in Azerbaijan, especially regarding the air quality. The purporse of the project is to strenghten the environmental monitoring system ensuring provision of the high quality information that supports strategic environmental policy planning and compliance control.
