Europe is the world’s fastest-warming continent, but the implementation of EU policies is not keeping up with the increasing climate risks, according to a recent report by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Johan Munck af Rosenschöld, who co-led the assessment work at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke), shares the key findings of the report. 

Finns are advised to eat more vegetables, whole grains and sustainably caught and farmed fish. At the same time, they should reduce their consumption of red meat, processed meat and foods rich in salt, fat or sugar. A change in diets would not only promote people’s individual health but also planetary health.

Jorma Jantunen, the Head of Authority Services at the Finnish Environment Institute, passed away on 23 December 2023, aged 66.
