Social media policy of Finnish Environment Institute

Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) is a multidisciplinary research and expert institute. Our most important task is to solve society’s most burning questions that have an impact on the environment. Our some 650 experts are building a sustainable society in close co-operation with Finnish and international partners.

The environment is our shared responsibility on social media as well

We provide multidisciplinary research, knowledge and expert services for the use of public and private decision-making. We participate in public debate in many ways, and bring environmental issues forward on social media – forums with people participating actively on their own. We want to enable the availability of open and reliable knowledge and increase the understanding of the connectivity of environmental issues.

We also use the social media channels to start a conversation about our activities, different events and topical issues. Syke takes a constructive part in public discussion relying on scientific facts. We welcome open and respectful dialogue in our social media channels!

We act on social media according to the rules of good online behaviour and ask you to keep them in mind when you participate in conversation:

  • Respect the opinions of the others and don’t call names.
  • Messages that are racist or offensive to a person, community, religion or race are forbidden.
  • Do not use vulgar expressions or curse.
  • Do not urge others to criminal activity.
  • Do not provide links to illegal or inappropriate material.
  • Do not spread comments based on conspiracy theories, disinformation or fake news.
  • Advertising, marketing and sales of services and products of third parties is forbidden.
  • We reserve the right to delete comments that break these rules.
  • If a user repeatedly breaks these rules, their access to the site may be blocked.

Administration of social media channels and answering of questions

Syke Communications and Marketing is responsible for administration, use, assessment and development of the organization’s social media channels. The administrators of the channels follow the conversation mainly on weekdays and answer relevant questions either directly or by finding a suitable Syke expert to answer.

Syke experts can also answer questions using their own name. In addition, there are various social media channels for different Syke projects, administrated by the personnel of the project.

If you have questions about the social media policy of Syke, please contact Communications.
