Nordic and international hydrometry workshop 21–25 September

For more than a decade, this biennial workshop has brought together Nordic and international hydrometric agencies, researchers, and practitioners to collaborate, share innovations, and advance the science and practice of hydrometry. This year, the workshop will take place in Lapland, Finland.

Welcome to hydrometry workshops (NIHW)!

Join us to strengthen collaboration and exchange advances in hydrometric methods, technologies, and ideas in an open and friendly forum. The workshop is organised by the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) and Economic Development Centre of Southwest Finland. 

Theme

Preliminary workshop themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of hydrological networks
  • User benefits of hydrological observations
  • Uncertainty in hydrological observations/time series
  • AI-assistance in hydrology
  • Rating curves
  • ADCP-measurements
  • 'Alternative' discharge measurements (e.g. dilution, surface velocimetry etc.)
  • Mapping (e.g. GNSS, ADCP, echo sounders, drones etc.)
  • Hydrological field instrumentation
  • Quality assurance and control in hydrology

Location

The workshop will be held at the Arktikum Science Centre and Museum in Rovaniemi, Lapland. The venue will host workshop sessions, presentations, meetings, and the workshop dinner.

Monday

  • 10.00–12.00 Registration at Arktikum    
  • Afternoon: Opening words and keynote presentation(s)  

Tuesday

  • 9.00–17.00 Workshop presentations  
  • Evening: Finnish sauna and optional evening activities

Wednesday

  • 9.00–17.00 Workshop presentations and poster session    
  • Late afternoon: IHG meeting (members only)  
  • Evening: Workshop dinner (optional)  

Thursday

  • 9.00–17.00 Workshop presentations and instrument presentations  
  • Evening: Optional visit to Arctic circle and Santa Claus village  

Friday

  • 9.00–15.00 Field day at hydrological stations near Rovaniemi (regatta, measurements, and instrument demonstrations). Bus transport will be provided by the organisers.  

Social programme

Optional activities include:

  • Workshop dinner
  • Finnish sauna
  • Visit to the Arctic Circle

Registration will open later in spring.
