Leif Schulman, PhD, has served as Director general of Syke since 1 January 2021, and his new five-year term will continue until 31 October 2030. Prior to his current role, Schulman served as Director of the Natural History Museum Luomus from 2010 to 2020. Before that, he held positions such as Director and Curator of the Botanic Garden at the University of Helsinki and worked as a researcher at the University of Turku.

"I am grateful for the trust shown by the Government and continue to lead Syke with strong motivation. Syke’s work is more important than ever, especially now that the significance of the sustainability transition is increasingly recognised in terms of national security. Reducing energy and raw material dependencies by phasing out fossil fuels and moving toward a circular economy is key", Schulman says.
