Research and expertise

I have a background in industrial ecology with a strong focus on life cycle assessment (LCA). I use this expertise to study sustainability challenges of diverse and complex product systems and to advance the sustainability transformation in Finland and internationally.

My research spans a broad range of LCA applications, from product-level studies to comprehensive system analyses. In addition to quantifying environmental impacts, identifying hotspots, and suggesting improvements, I examine how methodological and modeling choices influence results and, ultimately, decision-making in business and policy contexts.

My goal is to make LCA accessible and understandable for a wide spectrum of users across sectors. As the Finnish representative to the Technical Advisory Board, I have contributed to developing the EU Environmental Footprint methodology, which supports mainstreaming LCA at the European level. I am also particularly interested in improving visualization and communication of LCA results to enhance stakeholder engagement. At Syke, I manage the internal LCA network and actively promote national and international collaboration.

My recent research projects have addressed topics such as lifetime extension of ICT devices, shared micro-mobility, plastic waste recycling, digital healthcare, and carbon dioxide removal. In earlier projects, I have applied LCA to areas including energy system transformation in Finland, shared mobility, consumer electronics, packaging, and waste management.
