Research interests and duties

I work as a joint research professor of energy economics at the Syke and the University of Oulu Business School. My main responsibilities include leading research projects related to the sustainable energy economy, developing the research field, supervising dissertations, and teaching-related tasks.

As an economist, I am particularly interested in the challenges of climate change mitigation from the perspective of society. It would be important to find solutions that are sustainable on both an environmental and an economy perspective. I believe that solutions to mitigating and adapting climate change can also support welfare and employment. However, this requires an understanding of the interdependencies between entities and different sectors of society. When the interdependencies are deeply understood, it is also possible to direct political guidance to the right targets.

In my research I have recently focused in energy transition related problems and opportunities. The key drivers of the ongoing restructuring of the energy market, the increasing use of renewable resources and the intelligence of electricity grids, will enable a new approach for the whole society to increase sustainability and welfare.
