Background

I am an environmental ecologist and work as a senior research scientist at the Finnish Environment Institute, Circular Economy Solutions Unit and Waste -group.

In recent years, my work has focused on the management of plastics and harmful substances in the circular economy, i.e. how the chemical safety can be achieved in the circular economy. Presently, I work in the PlastLIFE project, which promotes sustainable circular economy of plastics and implements the national programme, Plastics Roadmap for Finland. I represent Finnish Environment Institute in the secretariat of the Plastics Roadmap co-operation network.

Previously, I have studied environmental impacts of mines through several research and investigation projects, e.g., the INFACT project that focused on ore exploration and in the Kaivosveron vaihtoehdot ja vaikutukset (Mining tax alternatives and effects).

I studied bioremediation (microbial degradation) of contaminated soil and water for my doctoral theses at the University of Helsinki.

I worked as an entrepreneur in the past, so I am also familiar with the business world.
