Privacy notice for the processing of personal data in the Re-thinking plastics in a sustainable circular economy (PlastLIFE) project

This privacy notice contains information required by Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679) of the European Parliament and the Council, which must be provided to the data subject. This notice explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal data at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke).

Syke reserves the right to make technical changes to this privacy notice without prior notification to the data subjects.

Legal basis for data processing

We process your personal data based on your informed consent (Article 6 section 1 a of the General Data Protection Regulation) to carry out the research project.

Collected personal data and purposes of processing

The personal data collected includes first and last name, email address, phone number, address, and organization. Personal data is used for contacting purposes during the project. In Syke the collected personal data is handled by personnel working in the PlastLIFE project. 

No decisions based on automated decision-making or profiling are made based on the collected personal data.

Sources of personal data

Personal data is acquired from the data subjects themselves or from the data subject’s employer organization.

Receivers of personal data

Syke may disclose personal data to partners for the purposes of processing personal data.

Personal data will not be transferred or provided to any external entity outside the European Union or the European economic area.

Protection of personal data

Finnish Environment Institute as data controller has taken the necessary technical and organizational measures for the protection of personal data and requires them from all service providers it contracts. Personal data is collected, for example, using Webropol program, whose privacy notice can be found at https://webropol.co.uk/privacy-policy/.

Storage of personal data

Personal data is retained for the necessary period to fulfill the processing purposes described in this notice. The data will be deleted immediately when it is no longer needed. However, according to the filing plan, the data will be deleted no later than 10 years after.

Data protection rights concerning the processing of personal data

In this privacy notice, we strive to give a comprehensive picture of the processing of personal data for contacting purposes in PlastLIFE project. If some part of the implemented processing of personal data remains unclear, you can pose specifying questions by contacting our contact person or Syke’s data protection officer.

You have the following rights in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation

You have the right to know how your data is used and for what purpose.

You have the right to receive a copy of your personal data used.

If any of your personal data used by us is inaccurate, you may request us to correct the inaccurate and faulty data. When we correct data based on your request, we are obliged, if possible, to inform all recipients to whom the personal data has been disclosed of the correction of the personal data.

You have the right to have your personal data deleted and to restrict its processing. Additionally, you have the right to request the transfer of your data to another data controller.

You have the right to complain to the supervisory authority.

The supervisory authority is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
