The project will develop a standardized microplastic monitoring method that is suitable for the beaches of Finland, Estonia and Latvia. The common method will enable the collection of comparable monitoring data and provide information to support the development of guidelines for the entire Baltic Sea region.

In addition to the method development, the project will address littering on beaches caused by smoking. A survey to be carried out in Finland, Estonia and Latvia will collect information on smoking-related habits and littering, and the results of the survey will be used to mitigate littering caused by smoking. The project will also promote the Rosgis application developed by Syke in Estonia and Latvia. The purpose of the application is to collect observations on litter on beaches.
