Flood and snow Impact Forecast with AI (FIFA)

  • Duration: 2025 - 2026
  • Status: Ongoing

The project develops an AI-powered forecasting service to estimate the number of rescue operations caused by floods and snow loads. The service supports rescue services in preparedness and resource optimization.

The project aims to develop an AI-based forecasting service that predicts the number of rescue operations related to floods and heavy snow loads. The model is trained using rescue service statistics and hydrological forecasts from Syke’s watershed model. The service will be integrated into the operational model of the Flood Centre and disseminated to rescue departments. The project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Oulu, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, and other authorities. The goal is to improve proactive planning and resource allocation in rescue services and enhance public preparedness.
