Aim of the project

Syke’s role in the INAR RI eLTSER research infrastructure project is to strengthen citizen-based environmental observations in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. In collaboration with the University of Helsinki, we collect multisensory information, such as sounds, perceptions of environmental quality, and local experiences and values from different types of urban and suburban environments. Syke also works with crowdsourcing companies to test incentive-based approaches in citizen science within environmental monitoring.

By bringing these data sources together, Syke develops new digital tools and services that help people, communities, and organizations explore and use environmental information. For example, mobile applications for nature challenges or local environmental knowledge.
