Research integrity

Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) is committed to research integrity and high ethical values as well as to open data and open science.

We ensure the reliability, honesty, and impartiality of our research. We show respect and appreciation for both people and the environment. We proactively maintain our expertise up-to-date and improve continuously and systematically our practices. We have publication policy and open data policy according to which we produce open information. In our responsibility report, we report on our impact on selected UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the responsibility of our operations. Our certified environmental management system guides us in mitigating the environmental impacts of our internal activities.

We are committed to adhering to the research integrity guidelines of the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity (TENK). In our research and expert work, we also follow for example TENK’s guidelines for the ethical review in human sciences and the recommendation on agreeing on authorship. In EU collaboration, we apply the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity by the All European Academies, which is in line with TENK’s guidelines. Our research with human participants is based on the ethical principles defined by TENK.

The Director General has the formal responsibility for complying with research integrity guidelines at Syke. The Research Director is responsible for the quality of  research and enhances research integrity. Syke has three research integrity advisors trained by TENK.
