Clean energy transition effects on biodiversity

As part of the Pavilion, Finnish Environment Institute is organising two seminars presenting recent research in the field of climate change mitigation. The seminars will focus on clean energy transition and its effects on biodiversity.

“Building a clean, just and sustainable energy system is crucial for societies to meet our climate goals. Investing in renewable technologies should, however, not come at too high cost of other environmental or social impacts, such as loss of biodiversity, resource consumption, hazardous emissions or noise”, says Laura Sokka, Principal researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute.

“That’s why we are looking at the issue from multiple angles and research fields while building a roadmap for the implementation of energy transition”, she continues.

In the Finland Pavilion more than 40 forerunner companies, universities, cities, funds, networks, industry associations, civil societies, ministries and NGOs are joining forces in the Finland Pavilion. The Pavilion emphasises Finland’s active role in the global climate leadership presenting how Finnish institutions and companies are enhancing climate solutions through research, innovation, digitalisation and low-carbon industrial solutions.
