Syke in figures

The bar graph shows the total amount of Syke's funding between 1997 and 2024. The pillars are divided into two parts: direct budget funding and external funding. The share of external funding has increased throughout the review period. The total funding for 2024 was EUR 77 million Euros
The line chart shows the competitive research funding in 2015–2024. It includes funding from several sources: the Academy of Finland, the Government's analysis, assessment and research activities, EU funding, the Strategic Research Council, Business Finland and the Nordic Council of Ministers. EU funding increased significantly in 2024.
The horizontal bar chart shows Syke's income between 2018 and 2024 by financier. The Ministry of the Environment's share of funding is the largest and it has increased during the review period. Other key financiers are the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Academy of Finland and the EU.
The bar graph shows the number of employees at Syke from 1997 to 2024. The columns are divided into two parts: permanent and fixed-term staff, whose proportions have remained fairly even. In 2024, Syke employed 709 people, of whom 556 were permanent employees.

Publications

The bar graph shows the development of the total number of Syke's publications between 2000 and 2024. The columns are divided into two sections: peer-reviewed scientific publications and other publications. The total number of publications varies between about 500 and 750 publications each year. The number of publications was at its highest in 2015, and after that, a slight decline can be seen. In 2024, Syke produced a total of 522 publications. The share of peer-reviewed publications has increased during the review period.
The bar graph shows the number of Syke’s publications having the Publication Forum JUFO classification in 2021–2024. The largest number of publications are at JUFO levels 1 and 2. The combined share of JUFO 2 and 3 publications has been growing throughout the review period, which indicates that top-level publications have strengthened. The total number of publications shows a downward trend.

Downloads of geospatial dataset

The bar chart shows downloads of geodata covering the whole of Finland from 2016 to 2024. The downloads have increased almost throughout the entire review period. In 2016, the number of downloads was 54,000, and in 2024, it was 168,000.
