Research and development projects on environmental topics

We focus on research and development in the environmental sector. We provide independent information and expertise that supports sustainable development in society.

Multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinary collaboration as the foundation of our projects

The aim of environmental research is to create a good and safe living environment, to preserve biodiversity, and to prevent environmental harm. Multidisciplinarity and collaboration between disciplines are important to us. We have nearly a hundred EU projects and several hundred other research and development projects underway each year. Most of these are conducted in collaboration with domestic and foreign research institutes and universities.

The most significant funders of our projects include the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as the Academy of Finland and the Strategic Research Council (STN). Among international funders, the EU is the most significant supporter of environmental research.
