Calculator for estimating the climate effects of timber use

Use this calculator to illustrate the development of carbon stock in forests over time and the related climate effects. With the calculator you can estimate what effects the harvesting of forest residue and stemwood has on forest carbon stocks. The calculator helps take the carbon sink effect of forests into account when assessing the sustainability of bioeconomy. The calculator was realized with funding from the EU Life Canemure Project and the Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation.

Zonation – A tool for biodiversity conservation and land use planning

The Zonation software, developed at the University of Helsinki, can be used to comprehensively utilise information on the occurrence of species and habitats, and to combine this with data on threats to the area's nature and the costs of conservation measures.

The software is freely available on GitHub. Users have access to a user manual and training materials that come with the software. Zonation is developed by researchers from the Finnish Museum of Natural History and the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki. The work has been primarily funded by the Kone Foundation.
