Authority services

The Authority services function handles permit and supervision tasks related to the use of Syke's public authority as well as tasks on environmental safety and preparedness. The function is responsible for the following:  

• Permits and supervision of international waste transfers  
• Market surveillance (quality of transport fuels, the EU Ecolabel, ODS, and F gases) 
• Duties and expert services regarding Ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and Fluorinated greenhouse gases (F gases)
• Export notification for banned or severely restricted chemicals (PIC) (environment.fi)
• Duties relating to transport fuel quality and sulphur content limits for heavy and light fuel oil 
• Trade in endangered species – CITES (environment.fi)
• Duties related to marine environments as laid down in the Environmental Protection Act 
• Reporting of dangerous and harmful substances transported by sea (environment.fi)
• Matters related to the evaluation of cross-border environmental impacts 

Under the Authority services function, there is also the Environmental safety group, that is responsible for the following:  

• Syke’s preparedness, management of continuity of operation, preparedness matters, stand-by system and coordination of overall security and risk management at Syke  
• Charting, monitoring and draining of risky shipwrecks in the Baltic Sea
