Current duties and research interests

I currently work as a senior researcher in the Land Use Management Group. My current research topics relates to nature-based solutions and sustainable mobility. I usually adopt qualitative research methods in projects. Before current position I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki in two EU FP7 projects (GREEN SURGE, OpenNESS) and ENJUSTESS project funded by the Academy of Finland. I studied cultural ecosystem services and biocultural diversity of urban green areas and small-water bodies. In 2017-2019 I worked as an EIT Food expert at the University of Helsinki.

My duties at SYKE are prepare, coordinate and lead national and international projects related to living environment, circular economy and land use planning, and explore and develop new approaches and sustainable solutions. In addition, I am interested to develop methods and tools to to combine actions for circular economy and biodiversity conservation, and analyze potential trade-offs between them. I am also interested in study ecological and social impacts of sustainability transformation at different spatial scale.

Biodiversity, ecosystem services, etnographic research methods, biocultural diversity, human-nature interactions, international cooperation, interdisciplinary research, land use planning, municipal decision-making, nature-based solutions, qualitative research methods, place-based research, research funding, stakeholder involvement, urban nature.
