Background

I currently work as a head of Land Use Management Unit (2/2020-12/2020). I also coordinate and work as a senior researcher in several projects (see below). Before current position I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki in two EU FP7 projects (GREEN SURGE, OpenNESS) and ENJUSTESS project funded by the Academy of Finland. I studied cultural ecosystem services and biocultural diversity of urban green areas and small-water bodies. In 2017-2019 I worked as an EIT Food expert at the University of Helsinki. In my doctoral thesis I studied the sustainability of Finnish forestry. I analyzed trade-offs between regional ecological, social and economic sustainability components.

Current duties and research interests

Prepare, coordinate and lead national and international projects related to living environment, circular economy and land use planning, and explore and develop new approaches and sustainable solutions. In addition, I am interested to develop methods and tools to to combine actions for circular economy and biodiversity conservation, and analyze potential trade-offs between them. My special interests are also ecological and social impacts of sustainability transformation.

Expertise

Biodiversity, ecosystem services, etnographic research methods, biocultural diversity, international cooperation, urban nature, municipal decision-making, municipal positions of trust, qualitative research methods, nature conservation, land use planning, place-based research, stakeholder involvement, interdisciplinary research, research funding.

Post of trust
