17– 21 July 2023: International Biodiversity and Climate camp
Camping Milleri, Salacgrīva, Latvia

Participants: Young people from Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
Organizers: CLIWATE-project/ Latvian Fund for Nature

At the Camping Milleri, situated a few hundred meters from sandy shoreline of the Baltic Sea, young participants learn about the effects of climate change and other human impacts such as littering including the microplastics. In workshops they for example monitor the basic water quality parameters using a portable research kit and get to know nocturnal insects. They will also learn how one could try to ease the emotions caused by climate change. A visit to the Biosphere Reserve Nature Centre is included to camp programme. Forest walks, networking and having fun are also part of camp life!

24 – 26 May 2023: International Canoeing camp
The Hiitolanjoki River, South Karelia, Finland

Participants: Young people from Finland, Estonia and Latvia
Organizers: CLIWATE-project/The Finnish Nature League

Camp participants learn how to safely canoe and navigate in partly restored trans-boundary Hiitolanjoki River in Finland’s South Karelia. Campers will receive information on how, in the last few years, the River's ecosystem has been profoundly and positively affected by the dismantling of two dams improving the condition of salmon stocks in the River. In workshops the participants study the river water quality and learn about species biodiversity in the area. Networking and having fun with other nature enthusiasts is always an important part of camp life.
